These maximum
residue limits (MRLs) are in parts per million (ppm; mg of contaminant per
kg of fat), except for dioxins (PCDDs/PCDFs) for which the limits are
in parts per trillion (ppt). Again (see notes page for last slide),
the residue limits for dioxin mixtures were determined using a toxic
equivalency (TEQ) scheme in which each compound in the mixture is attributed
a specific (WHO-determined) toxic equivalency factor (TEF) in order to
account for the degree of toxicity relative to that of 2,3,7,8-TCDD. Note
that here the MRLs were determined on the basis of a standard fat intake of
50 g per day, and intended for fat concentration in meat other than mammals. |
